ErinoakKids will now provide care to infants with Congenital Muscular Torticollis
February 04, 2016
As a result of new funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, ErinoakKids is now able to provide a physiotherapy episode of care to infants with isolated Congenital Muscular Torticollis (CMT).
CMT is a condition in which the sternocleidomastoid muscle is shorter on one side of the neck than the other causing the infant’s head to be pulled towards the short muscle and the chin to be turned away from that side. One side of the infant’s head and face may also have a different shape than the other side.
This additional physiotherapy service will require a physician or nurse practitioner referral.
To ensure optimal outcomes are attained, early intervention is extremely important. Children benefit most when referred prior to 12 months. Please make a referral as soon as you suspect CMT. Please visit erinoakkids.ca/physiotherapy
