2013 Pride & Joy Awards

View photos of the event

On Friday, November 1, 2013 ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development hosted an event to celebrate the achievements and determination of the children and youth we serve. The event took place at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga at which we honoured three outstanding young people who exemplify what it means to be an “ErinoakKid”. In addition, we honoured one Corporate Ambassador for their ongoing support of the centre.

In the months prior to the event, the ErinoakKids staff submitted nominations for the Pride & Joy awards. The selection committee then had the difficult task of selecting four honourees to be recognized at the event. The recipients represent the challenges, successes and dreams of all ErinoakKids clients and former clients.

The evening began with an elegant cocktail reception, which provided guests with the opportunity to meet and mingle while enjoying delicious hors d’oeuvres.

After enjoying dinner, guests had the opportunity to hear the stories of this year’s award winners, told through moving video tributes. Everyone in attendance was inspired by the accomplishments and abilities of children and youth who currently receive or have previously received treatment at ErinoakKids, as well as the dedication and commitment of their families.

At the end of the evening the 180 event attendees were provided with a gift pack from Longo’s which included olive oil, balsamic vinegar, an environment friendly shopping bag and packages of Taralli.

All in all, the 2013 Pride & Joy Awards event was a great success. We are now planning for a bigger and even better event set for late October 2014!

The recipients of the 2013 Pride & Joy Awards were:

Roran Wright, age 5 Little Acorn recipient (a current client under age 6 who shows determination achieving goals and developing their skills)
MacCartney Bowes, age 7 Branching Out recipient (a current client over age 6 who participates in extra-curricular activites and shows camaraderie with others)
Aziz Memon, presented posthumously Mighty Oak recipient (a former client age 16 and up who is an ambassador for young people with disabilities, is a role model and a mentor
Smilezone Foundation Deep Roots recipient (an outstanding corporate supporter and abmassador for ErinoakKids)

Did you know?

Did you know that the three smallest bones in the human body are the ear ossicles and are found in the middle ear?  All three bones are needed to transmit sounds from the air to the auditory portion of the inner ear (cochlea).
