RBC Foundation today committed $150,000 toward medical and support services at ErinoakKids for kids with disabilities. The multi-year pledge will help meet growing demand in the community and ensure critical, unfunded programming continues to benefit children with special needs.
“Demand for services for children with disabilities across Ontario is increasing each year as our population grows,” said ErinoakKids President and CEO Bridget Fewtrell. “Today’s generous commitment will allow us to meet that need now and into the future by funding services we know bring true benefit to these children as they grow and become adults.”
The need for services at ErinoakKids is increasing at a rate of 10 percent annually. RBC Foundation’s donation will help provide funding for several unfunded ErinoakKids programs, including its:
Respite Program: Provides short periods of relief for families of children with complex care needs. Children enjoy a range of activities including swimming, cooking, crafts outside the home and supervised by qualified medical staff.
Independent Living Program: Offers children, ages 16-19, an opportunity to learn life skills such as cooking, using public transit and banking, while living in an accessible apartment with access to 24-hour attendant services for personal care needs.
Recreation Therapy Programs: Assists children and youth with special needs who are unable to access community recreation programs in developing lifelong leisure and other skills in a group environment.
“It is a great privilege to be able to provide this donation to ErinoakKids,” said Tom Parisi, Regional Vice-President, South Mississauga, RBC. “We understand the importance of the programs that these facilities are able to bring to life. When we launched the RBC Kids Pledge, our five-year, $100 million commitment to improve the well-being of a million kids and youth, we were thinking of institutions like ErinoakKids and programs such as these.”
RBC Foundation’s donation will support ErinoakKids’ $20 million In My Dreams
fundraising campaign for three new sites set to open in spring 2017. The new sites – one in Brampton (including the Regional Respite Centre), a second in Oakville and a third in Mississauga, will bring together in one location, therapy, medical and support services for children and youth with disabilities. Funds raised will help equip the new buildings and deliver essential unfunded services.
Today’s announcement brings RBC Foundation’s total lifetime giving to ErinoakKids to more than $200,000.
