A Message From ErinoakKids President and CEO
April 02, 2020
All ErinoakKids sites are closed and will remain so until further notice. But that does not mean that ErinoakKids staff are not continuing to support our clients and their families. As an organization that has been part of the community for almost fifty years, we are committed to doing everything we can to help children and youth with disabilities grow and develop; COVID-19 does not change that commitment, it just means that we need to be creative in how we carry through on that commitment.
What We Are Doing
All our staff are working from home, and our clinicians and others continue to touch base and offer support to clients in our care and their families. Contact is being made by phone or – on a limited basis at present – through Zoom or OTN platforms. This virtual capacity will be expanded over the coming days, as we strive to offer all available options to connect and provide services that are appropriate to deliver through these mechanisms.
As well, while we cannot see one another in person, we can still listen, offer tips and coaching, and point you to online resources. If you are an existing ErinoakKids client family and would like to speak to one of our clinicians or support staff, please call 905-855-2690 (toll free: 1-877-374-6625). Please leave a message that clearly includes your name, your child’s name, and your phone number, and one of our staff will return your call.
All appointments for April 2020 are being cancelled. We will reschedule these appointments once our sites reopen.
Families who have signed up for our client portal, ErinoakKids Connect, can also communicate with their clinicians via this secure method. As this is a relatively new option, only a portion of our families have registered to use it — and we are now investigating how best to sign up interested families to the portal remotely. Our current sign up process requires families to register for ErinoakKids Connect in person, so that we can verify all information. As we develop a process that continues to protect private health information but allows you to sign up remotely, we will post the details, so watch this space.
Our Autism Services team continue to support families and, for those interested, can still provide information about Autism Services available for purchase. If you have questions specifically related to purchase of service call the number above and press 4 to leave a message, and a team member will return your call.
As the COVID-19 situation evolves, ErinoakKids will continue to explore all available options to provide the most effective care and supports we can to our clients and their families.
At this time we do not know when it will be safe for us to welcome client families, staff and visitors back to our sites. We know that schools are closed until at least the beginning of May, and that means ErinoakKids’ sites will be closed until that time. Our decision on when to reopen will, of course, be guided by the experts at Public Health.
Meantime, we will proceed with planning for the summer. We have opened, or will soon open, registration for all of our summer programs. In recognition that all plans at this point are tentative, we will be accepting registrations but (for programs with a fee component) will not be requesting payment at this time. Once our sites open again, registrations will be completed, and any applicable fees can be paid then.
We Are Here For You
This is a very challenging time for all of us, and we want you to know we are here to help as best we can. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch as needed. In the meantime, please practice all precautions as we are being advised by health authorities and – and stay safe and well.
