Dentist donates more than $53,000 to kids’ cause

October 03, 2012
3 OCTOBER 2012 – Dr. Dale Schisler brought some big smiles to ErinoakKids Centre for
Treatment and Development yesterday when he dropped by to donate over $6,500–
bringing his total lifetime donations to the Children’s Treatment Centre to more than
$53,000.

The successful Oakville dentist has been making such donations to ErinoakKids for six
years, giving the proceeds of teeth-whitening treatments from his practice, Hopedale
Dental, each year to support children with disabilities in his community.

“Dr. Schisler has been a staunch supporter of ErinoakKids since 2007,” said Bridget
Fewtrell, President and CEO of ErinoakKids. “His fall visits provide a much-needed
boost for the children and families we serve.”

Although its core services are funded by the Ontario government, many additional
services are not, and must rely on support from donors.

“I cannot overstate the importance of donors like Dale Schisler to the work we do at
ErinoakKids,” added Fewtrell. “Our goal is to help the children to be all they can be, and
our additional, donor-funded services are a vital and integral part of meeting that
commitment.”

Dr. Schisler’s commitment to the children flows from his membership in Crown Council,
an alliance of dentists throughout North America who donate to their local communities
by offering professional teeth-whitening at a reduced price and then donating the
proceeds to local charities which they select themselves.

“At Hopedale Dental, we choose to support ErinoakKids because it directly helps the
most needful and deserving children of all, right here in our own community and nearby,”
said Dr. Schisler.

ErinoakKids is the largest Children’s Treatment Centre in Ontario, providing medical
assessment and treatment to almost 13,000 children in Peel, Halton and Dufferin who
have a wide range of disabilities, including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, traumatic
injury, and many other medical diagnoses. The Centre also serves children with
communications challenges and autism, and those who are deaf or blind. In addition,
ErinoakKids provides a range of services and support to the families of its clients.

Did you know?

Did you know that children who are blind learn about the parts of objects first because that is what they feel with their hands as they explore?  Children who are able to see learn about an object, such as a chair, then learn about the parts of the object, such as the seat, back and legs.
