News: Request for proposals stage closed for ErinoakKids project

April 29, 2014
The request for proposals stage has closed for prequalified companies to submit bids to design, build and finance new children’s treatment centres in Brampton, Mississauga and Oakville.

ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development is the largest of Ontario’s 21 children’s treatment centres, treating more than 13,500 children and youth with disabilities each year in Peel, Halton and Dufferin. The three new facilities will allow ErinoakKids to consolidate programs and services from ten existing sites and will be purpose-built for children with disabilities and special needs. The largest facility will be approximately 120,000 square feet and will be located in Brampton, with the other two sites in Mississauga and Oakville, approximately 90,000 and 70,000 square feet respectively.
The new buildings are slated to open in early 2017 and will offer a wide range of services, including:
  • autism services such as intensive behavioural intervention and applied behaviour analysis
  • infant hearing and blind/low vision services
  • physiotherapy and occupational therapy services
  • speech and language services
  • assistive devices resource services
  • medical, nursing and specialty medical services
  • respite services (at Brampton location only)
  • family support services
Over the next several months, Infrastructure Ontario and ErinoakKids will evaluate the proposals. The successful bidder and cost of the project will be announced publicly following financial close, anticipated for fall 2014. Construction is expected to begin shortly after.
The project will support ErinoakKids in its mission to help children and youth with physical, developmental and communication disabilities achieve optimal levels of independence, learning, health and well-being.
Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services are working with ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development to build the new children’s treatment centres, which will remain publicly owned and controlled.
Infrastructure Ontario is a crown agency of the Province of Ontario that delivers large, complex infrastructure renewal projects on time and on budget. Over the last six years, the province has applied Infrastructure Ontario’s Alternative Financing and Procurement model to 83 major projects valued at approximately $38 billion dollars, saving taxpayers an estimated $3 billion dollars. Infrastructure Ontario also manages one of the largest real estate portfolios in Canada, provides municipalities and eligible public sector clients with financing to renew public infrastructure, and leverages its private-sector expertise to manage major commercial transactions on behalf of the province.
