2019 Winter Programs

Check out the exciting therapeutic recreation activities happening this winter at all three ErinoakKids locations!
 

Please note:

Only current ErinoakKids clients are eligible to participate unless otherwise stated. New participants may be asked to complete an assessment to ensure suitability for the program. Acceptance to the program is at the discretion of the facilitator.

Programs do not provide one-to-one support for attendant care (lifting, toileting, or administration of medication) or behavioral support. If assistance is required, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian or appointed attendant to fulfill these duties. Volunteers can only facilitate a child’s participation in activities and are not permitted to assist with these duties.

If registration is low, a program may be canceled and fees will be fully refunded.

Family Skate

$100 (8 weeks)

Mondays | 4:20 – 5:20 p.m. 
Jan. 7 – March 4 (no skate Feb. 18)    

This program provides ErinoakKids clients and their families with an opportunity to explore skating as a fun leisure activity. Adapted skating equipment, such as sledges and skate mates, will also be available for participants to try.

Please note: This is not a formal skating lesson.

Location: Erin Mills Twin Arena 3205 Unity Dr, Mississauga

Participant criteria:
  • Ages: 3 and up
  • Participants must supply their own skates and wear a properly fitting skating helmet
  • One parent or guardian must attend the program with each client. If a parent is not able to assist on the ice, a volunteer can be placed with a client to support them while skating. Volunteers may be able to help siblings on a first come, first served basis, after support has been allocated to clients.
 

Family Yoga

$120  per family (8 weeks)
(up to 4 family members) | $40 per extra family member


Tuesdays | 7–8 p.m.
Jan. 29 – March 26 (no session March 12) (8 weeks) 

This family yoga program, led by a certified yoga instructor from Yogini for Life, will provide the opportunity for all family members to practice relaxation in a peaceful atmosphere using music,
and imagination.

Yoga is safe, gentle and therapeutic for children of all ages and abilities.

Recommended for children ages 3, and up. Child must be accompanied by a parent.

Halton

 

Songs and Stories

$100 (8 weeks)

Wednesdays | 10–11 a.m. 
Feb. 20 – April 17 (no session March 13) 

A group for children and caregivers who enjoy music, circle time, stories socializing and free play fun. 

Participant criteria:
  • Age 2-5
  • Accompanied by a parent or caregiver
 

Little Chefs 

$80 (7 weeks)

Wednesdays | 5–6:30 p.m.
January 23 – March 6 

Introductory program to help participants develop the knowledge and skills in meal preparation. Simple weekly menus will be planned and prepared, while learning kitchen safety, hygiene and cleanup.

Participant criteria: 
  • Ages: 8-12
  • Able to participate in group activities and discussion with minimal support
  • Able to demonstrate awareness of safety precautions in a kitchen environment
 

Everybody’s Got Talent  

$150 (8 weeks)

Thursdays | 7–8 p.m.
Jan. 31 – March 28 (no session on March 14)

Come explore your talent and share your love of music with various instruments and interactive activities! 

Participant criteria:
  • Age 9-13 
  • Able to participate in group activities
  • Able to follow directions with or without support
 

Active Start

$20 (6 weeks)

Thursdays | 5–6 p.m.
Jan. 31 – March 7 (6 weeks)

An activity-based play program to allow children and their caregivers to participate in developmentally appropriate, skill-based sessions and open gym time to promote basic motor skills such as balance, running, jumping and ball skills.

Participant criteria:
  • Ages 2-6 
  • Able to walk independently with or without equipment 
  • Accompanied by a parent or caregiver
 

Mini SKILLS March Break Camp

$50 (1 week) 

March 11-15 | 9 – 1 p.m.

Children will have the opportunity to develop and practice skills related to recreation, leisure and independence. Targeted goals may include: personal and community safety, making a simple snack, co-operative play.

Participant criteria:
  • Ages: 6-10
  • Must be referred by an Occupational Therapist 
  • Able to identify a simple goal with support
  • Must be able to safely and successfully participate in large group program

TRY-IT

$60 (6 weeks)

Mondays | 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Jan. 21 - March 4 (no class Feb. 18)

This program provides participants with the opportunity to learn about different leisure activities and explore their interests by participating in various recreation activities like cooking, sports and music. The program offers insights into related community resources.

Participant criteria: 
  •  Able to participate in group activities with minimal support 
  •  Able to follow directions



Everybody’s Got Talent 

$110 (7 weeks)

Jan. 15 - March 5 (No class Jan. 29)

  • Able to participate in group activities with minimal support and/or redirection

LEGO Robotics 

$60 (6 weeks)

Wednesdays | 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. 
Feb. 13 - March 27 (no class March 13)

This program enables children with disabilities to participate in a unique experience where they will develop and refine decision-making and socialization skills by using LEGO® WeDo robotic sets in a structured program.

Participant criteria: 
  • Ages: 6-9
  • Interested in science, technology, engineering and/or math (STEM)
  • Must be interested and able to safely and successfully participate in a structured two-hour large group program
  • Must have identified a way of accessing a computer and/or his/her speech generating device


Bollywood Dance


A high energy hour of Bollywood dancing with a focus on fun and fitness! Dancers will explore different types of dance and learn a new routine each week. This program is offered in partnership with Shiamak Davar International Inc. Victory Arts Program.

Thursdays  |  7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Jan. 17 – March 7

Participant Criteria:
  • Ages 8+
  • Able to participate in group activities with minimal support and/or redirection
  • Able to follow a simple series for 3-4 step directions
