Social Work Services

Social Work services at ErinoakKids are provided by social workers who have a Masters of Social Work degree, and are registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
Social Workers are professionally trained to support children, youth and families to cope with the impact of illness, disability and complex health needs.  
They care for the social, emotional and service needs of children, youth and their families, while respecting the need for client and family confidentiality.


Clients and their families may be referred to Social Work services if:

  • the client’s age is within the age range mandate of their specific service stream
  • the client is receiving one of the core services at ErinoakKids
  • the client and/or family member(s) are experiencing adjustment difficulties related to the client’s diagnosis and its associated challenges.

Support For Siblings
Social Work services have resources to help the siblings of children/youth who receive services at ErinoakKids.
Youth Mentorship Training - New!
Join us for a free 11-week program to grow your leadership skills and learn how you can support your peers in positive and effective ways. This program will help you build your confidence, and improve your problem solving and communication skills. This program is open to highschool-aged youth.

You will learn:
  • Active listening
  • Problem solving
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Understanding roadbloks to communication
Following the training you will be able to:
  • Attend monthly mentorship meetings with certified mentors from across ErinoakKids’ sites to practise using your new mentorship skills
  • Manage conversations using skills such as open/closed-ended questions, setting boundaries for yourself, using “I” messages for conflict resolution and understanding your values and how to support someone who has experienced bullying
Upcoming sessions:
Date: Thursday evenings from April 22 – June 24
Time: 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Format: Virtual Group via Zoom for Healthcare (A link will be emailed to you after registration)
