Description: Providing an opportunity for ErinoakKids clients and their families to participate and explore skating as a fun leisure activity. Adapted skating equipment, such as sledges and skate mates, will also be available for participants to try. Please note: this is not a formal skating lesson.

Participant Criteria
 •   Participants must supply their own skates and wear a properly fitting skating helmet
 •   One parent or guardian must attend the program with each client. There will be limited on ice volunteer support available  due to COVID restrictions.

Description: The Heroes Circle is partnering with ErinoakKids. The Heroes Circle program, delivered by specially trained black belt martial artists, teaches children breathing, visualization, and relaxation techniques, in addition to traditional martial arts moves, to help empower children beyond the pain and trauma of childhood diseases and conditions.  This program is open to all children in pain, regardless of their cause and our program is free of charge to the Families who join us. Sensei Ilze van der Merwe will be teaching the program by Zoom for children of all abilities, aged 5 to 14. Siblings are welcome to attend as well.

Participant Criteria
 • Able to participate in virtual group program for 45-60 minutes
 • Able to attend to a task for a minimum of 5 minutes


ErinoakKids and FIRST Robotics Lego STEM Program (Virtual)

Description: A virtual group program that will open new opportunities for kids to participate in a STEM experience. This program provides an opportunity to develop and refine STEM skills and learnings, all while making friends. Participants will work hands-on with LEGO® in interactive building activities. In this course you will:
 • Build a model used to demonstrate various STEM concepts; kinematics/projectile motion, static electricity, circular motion, gears, balance and Aerodynamics, Forces
 • Share and present your model with the team to practice presentation skills and receiving feedback
 Through a generous donation from FIRST Robotics Canada, all equipment will be provided on loan for this program. Pick up and return of this kit will be arranged upon registration. 

Participant Criteria
 • Able to participate in group activities and discussion with minimal support for one hour
 • Interest in learning about STEM (science, technology, engineering, math)

 • Receiving or eligible for service with SBRS PT or Recreation Therapy
 • Able to follow 2 step directions
 • Able to attend to a task for a minimum of 5 minutes
 • Able to participate virtually with caregiver support

Description: This program is for children to experience a variety of sports and cooperative games in a supportive and fun environment. Participants will take part in sport-based sessions to promote  motor skill development such as balance, and ball skills, while learning to work with peers in a social setting. 

Participation Criteria:
  • be receiving physiotherapy and/or occupational therapy service at ErinoakKids
  • be able to safely and successfully participate in a structured large group program without 1:1 support
  • be able to walk independently or with an assistive device
  • be seizure free for at least six months, and
  • be medically stable

Description: “Little Helping Hands” is an intensive program is for children 3-6 years old with a diagnosis of hemiplegia.  Clients participate in a variety of fun therapeutic activities that encourage use of both hands together and of the child’s affected hand only (Constraint Induced Movement Therapy) to support functional outcomes. 

Participant Criteria

  • Be receiving Occupational Therapy services at ErinoakKids
  • Attend this program on the recommendation of therapist
  • Be affected by hemiplegia in arm or hand with some use of   affected hand
  • Have the ability to follow directions and participate in group settings
  • Be seizure free for at least six months
