At ErinoakKids, we know that managing your child’s care and navigating different services can sometimes feel like a full-time job. Our 2026–2029 Digital Health Strategy is built entirely around using technology to make your life easier, your child's care more coordinated, and our time together more meaningful.

By upgrading our digital tools over the next three years, we are focusing on:

• Saving you time by cutting down on paperwork and making it simpler to share records.
• Empowering your family with flexible, online self-service tools to manage care.
• Giving clinicians more face-to-face time with your child by reducing their time spent on computers.
• Keeping your information safe through industry-leading privacy and cybersecurity protections.

 Pillar 1: Connecting Your Child's Entire Care Team   

Our Goal: 

We want to ensure that everyone involved in your child’s care, from your ErinoakKids therapists to your family doctor and provincial health networks, is seamlessly connected. By sharing information securely, we can provide your child with continuous, coordinated care and save you from having to repeat your family's story at every single appointment.

Key Initiatives:

• Moving Away from Paperwork: We are moving away from outdated paper and fax processes. You will be able to fill out, send, and receive important referral forms and documentation securely online.
  
  
• A Connected Health System: We are safely linking ErinoakKids' systems with Ontario’s broader provincial health networks. This means your child’s records can move securely between specialists and community care, reducing delays and duplicate tests.
  
  
• Breaking Down Communication Barriers: We want our digital tools to be welcoming to every family. We are exploring live translation and captioning technologies, alongside easy-to-use digital assistants on our website, to ensure you can find the information you need in your preferred language.

 Pillar 2: Putting Easy-to-Use Tools in Your Hands  

Our Goal: 

Your time is precious. We are building and improving secure, self-service digital tools that give you more control and convenience over how you interact with us, right from your phone or computer.

Key Initiatives:

• Simple, Automatic Portal Access: When your child begins services with us, you will be automatically enrolled in our secure ErinoakKids Connect portal. We are creating clear, step-by-step guides to make onboarding hassle-free, no matter your comfort level with technology.
  
  
• Convenient Appointment Management: We are upgrading the ErinoakKids Connect portal to let you easily view, schedule, or cancel appointments online. We are also introducing text messaging options so you can receive quick updates and reply instantly.
  
  
• Secure Online Document Sharing: No more printing, mailing, or hand-delivering medical and administrative forms. You will be able to securely upload files directly into our system through simple online forms.

Pillar 3: Recouping Face-to-Face Time with Your Child 

Our Goal: 

We want our clinicians focused on what they do best which is supporting your child’s growth and well-being. By introducing smart technology behind the scenes to handle routine tasks, we can reduce screen time during appointments and maximize meaningful, face-to-face care.

Key Initiatives:

• Faster Access to Your Child's Records: We are exploring safe, smart search tools that help our therapists quickly find and summarize key historical notes in your child’s electronic chart, so they are fully prepared the moment they walk into the room with you.
  
  
• Responsible and Supervised AI Use: Any advanced technology or Artificial Intelligence (AI) we explore to handle administrative or scheduling work will be guided by strict oversight. Your child's care and clinical plans will always be completely led by real, caring professionals.
  
  
• Planning Ahead to Reduce Wait Times: We use data trends to safely predict service demands across our programs. This allows us to plan our staffing and resources proactively, helping us get your child into the programs they need more efficiently.

Behind every tool we build is a commitment to keeping your family’s private data protected. We are modernizing our internal technology systems to ensure ErinoakKids runs smoothly, efficiently, and securely every day.

Key Initiatives:

• Top-Tier Privacy and Cybersecurity: Your family's trust is everything. We work in intentional partnership with leading children’s health organizations (like Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital) to share a resilient, secure, and scalable IT network that keeps your information private.
  
  
• Streamlining Internal Workflows: We are automating repetitive administrative tasks and digitizing our internal records. When our staff spends less time tracking down paperwork or dealing with manual file systems, they have more time and resources to dedicate to your family.
