Youth Advisory Committee

Since 1989, the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) has been an important part of ErinoakKids – the ErinoakKids Youth Advisory Committee was the first group of its kind among Ontario’s Children’s Treatment Centres.

YAC started when a group of ErinoakKids youth expressed an interest in developing an advisory group. As a result of this pioneering initiative, the ErinoakKids Youth Advisory Committee received the Ontario Association of Children’s Rehabilitation Services.

YAC provides a forum for discussion and feedback for clients, families, staff and community partners. YAC can also help youth develop advocacy skills and be involved in creating new opportunities for younger generations of clients.

Some of the many projects that YAC has been involved with include the monthly Youth Drop-In for teens and youth, teen dances throughout the year, talent night, a youth BBQ and the mentorship committee. YAC has also given many presentations in the community and has acted as a community consultant.

YAC members are youth who are in high school, under 19 years old and have received services at ErinoakKids. Youth who participate in YAC can also receive volunteering hours needed to graduate from high school.

Youth Advisory Committee meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month, from September to June. Attendant services are provided.
